Building Community with Art

What does art mean to you? Does it have a place in your life?

For me: art is a series of decisions, defined by my skill set and knowledge, that reflects my internal landscape and personal journey. For you, it might be different, but hopefully we can all agree that ours lives are enriched by the arts- both by participating and creating. In constructing this new website, my hope is that it can be an inclusive resource, and an opportunity, to engage artists, art lovers, and the broader community with each other. To achieve this, our community must join in the creation and use of this site. I’m sure after a quick browse, you will have ideas or questions to contribute to the conversation. Perhaps you have photos of an event from decades ago or stories about art in town that would enrich our understanding of the Arts in Petersburg over the years? Maybe you are creating artwork today?

Send your feedback and thoughts to petersburgarts@gmail.com to help deepen this site. The first focus is to make this a living resource for Petersburg to use for current and upcoming events. The ability to make donations and purchase event tickets is coming soon. It will also be a home to display more information about the public arts projects visible around town. It will take time to populate a sense of history and find a balance between events, projects, advertising, and reflection. Update your membership and join the volunteers steering the Petersburg Arts Council.
